Capcom’s ‘Pragmata’ Shoots Past 2M Copies Sold In 16 Days

Capcom has another reason to be over the moon. After surpassing one million copies sold in just two days, its sci-fi hacking adventure title Pragmata has now topped two million units in sales, which bodes well for the future of original IPs.

In the announcement post, the studio attributed the success to marketing initiatives such as releasing a playable demo, as well as the game’s “emotionally driven narrative” that focuses on the growing bond between a human, Hugh, and an android girl, Diana. More recently, the official Twitter/X account ran a social media takeover, publishing content from Diana’s perspective.

In celebration of the milestone, director Cho Yonghee took to social media and thanked fans for their support: “I’m excited to share that over 2 million players have joined Diana and Hugh on their lunar journey! The dev team is blown away by the warm support so many of you have expressed for PRAGMATA, so here’s an illustration to express our gratitude. To all players, thank you so, so much.”

An accompanying special illustration was also unveiled, showing Hugh and Diana flashing a thumbs-up:

While Pragmata was never going to reach the heights of established franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, its sales numbers are nothing short of impressive — so much so that the company is looking to turn it into a potential long-term franchise.

“We’re to a point now where we’ve got another IP that Capcom — and god bless them, has an arsenal — that we can continue to go down,” said Rob Dyer, chief operating officer of Capcom USA, previously.

It’s been a long road for Pragmata, which was first announced in 2020 and underwent several delays before finally launching on 17 April. The unique twist on real-time hacking and shooting was a fresh breath of air for many, with its success scoring yet another win for Capcom following critical and fan acclaim for both Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Resident Evil Requiem.
