More than five years after the conclusion of its first season, the popular shōnen anime Black Clover is finally getting a second chapter, with Season 2 set to launch in October 2026 with returning director Ayataka Tanemura.

As reported by Crunchyroll, Tanemura, who helmed the 2023 anime film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King and episodes 153 to 170 of the anime’s first season, will now lead its second once more. Studio Pierrot also returns to produce the animation, with Keiichiro Ochi as series composer, Itsuko Takeda as character designer, Kumiko Tokunaga as sub character designer, Kosei Takahashi as prop designer and Minako Seki as music composer.
Ahead of Season 2’s launch, its first episode will also be aired at the Anime Expo 2026 on 4 July, with Tanemura and Gakuto Kajiwara, the voice actor for Black Clover’s protagonist Asta, in attendance.
Black Clover began as a manga by Yuki Tabata in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015, moving to Jump Giga in December 2023. The original manga consisted of 37 volumes, with serialisation concluding in May 2026. The manga was adapted into an anime in October 2017, initially directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, and consisted of 170 episodes across four parts, concluding in March 2021.
Black Clover centres on Asta, a magic-less boy in a world run by magic, and his childhood friend Yuno, an extremely gifted magic user. When Asta receives a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that can negate his opponent’s spells, the pair set out on a journey to achieve their common dream – to become the Wizard King. The pair’s tale is set to continue when Black Clover Season 2 debuts on Crunchyroll in October 2026, check out its latest trailer above.
