‘Shrek 5’ Trailer Sees The Gang Locked Up In A Land Further, Further Away

Shrek and his friends are off on another adventure, and this time, it’s to a land Further, Further Away, as the latest trailer for Universal Pictures’ Shrek 5 has dropped, teasing the shenanigans to come when the film launches on 30 June 2027.

The trailer starts off with a familiar storybook-styled recap of the original 2001 animated film, before introducing that Shrek and his family will now be heading to the unfamiliar land of Further Further Away. This narration is interrupted by Donkey, who talks about undergoing a makeover, a nod to the film’s new, more detailed animation style.

“Shrek and Donkey, two stalwart friends off on another whirlwind big city adventure!” exclaims Donkey as the trailer shows the many misadventures to come as the pair and Shrek’s family head to the fantastical city, including the appearance of a familiar face, the Gingerbread Man, who humorously places two gumdrops on his butt and says that he is “caked up like a friggin’ bakery”. Like all their adventures, the trailer ends in mishap, with Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, and Shrek’s two adult sons, Fergus and Farkle, being thrown in jail.

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz all return to reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively, with the main trio joined by comedian Marcello Hernandez as Fergus, Skyler Gisondo (Superman) as Farkle, and Zendaya (Dune) as Felicia.

Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2) helms the animated sequel, with Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri of Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise serving as producers. Shrek 5 will also mark the first mainline entry in the series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After.

Shrek 5 will head to theatres on 30 June 2027. The sequel isn’t the only franchise-related project in the works too, as a Donkey spin-off was previously announced for a 2028 release, with production set to begin only after the fifth instalment wraps.
