If there was any doubt of Capcom’s ability to maintain the franchise’s strong track record, Resident Evil Requiem has firmly put it to rest. The company announced that its latest survival horror entry had already surpassed the sales milestone, selling five million copies in just five days.

This comes after it scored the franchise’s biggest Steam launch with an all-time peak of 344,214 concurrent players, and appears to be the fastest-selling overall in recent history. Even the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2, the series’ all-time top seller, sold three million in its first week, while Resident Evil 5 — the company’s fastest-selling title at that time — only crossed the five-million mark in its second month.
Part of its success, as Capcom shares in a news release, can be attributed to the technical prowess of its own custom RE Engine technology, but other factors, including the return of fan-favourite Leon S. Kennedy and Raccoon City, as well as a day-one launch across multiple platforms (Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S), likely contributed to the hype as well.

Resident Evil Requiem is also currently the highest-scoring game of 2026 (and of all time) on Metacritic, sitting at a user rating of 9.5 and slightly above Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It introduces FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as the new protagonist who investigates the remains of Raccoon City with the help of Leon, marking the latter’s first mainline game appearance since 2012’s Resident Evil 6.
Both characters can be played from a first-person or a third-person perspective, with Grace’s segments leaning into the classic survival-horror experience, and Leon’s missions designed to be more action-oriented.
