‘Resident Evil Requiem’ Scares Up Biggest Series Launch With 344K Concurrent Players On Steam

The enduring appeal of Resident Evil (and a dose of Leon S. Kennedy on the side) has struck again. Resident Evil Requiem, the latest entry in the beloved Capcom series, is now its biggest launch to date on Steam, boasting a concurrent player count that surpassed some of the most popular multiplayer titles.

Resident Evil Requiem

According to SteamDB, the all-time peak stands at 344,214 players on the platform, more than twice that of Resident Evil 4 Remake at 168,191, and over three times that of 2021’s Resident Evil Village, which topped out at 106,631. Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7, in comparison, registered a Steam peak of under 100,000 players — 74,227, 60,293, and 20,449, respectively.

The impressive showing also holds up against multiplayer games such as Destiny 2 (316,750), Elden Ring Nightreign (313,593), and Monster Hunter: World (334,684), cementing its status as one of the single-player greats in recent years. In fact, the survival horror adventure boasts the best user score on Metacritic in the franchise’s history, notching 9.5 across all platforms and falling just a bit shy of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (9.6).

Of course, the actual player count is higher, since Resident Evil Requiem launched on PC via Epic Games Store, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. It introduces FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as the new protagonist who investigates the remains of Raccoon City with the help of federal agent and returning fan favourite Leon, marking the latter’s first mainline game appearance since 2012’s Resident Evil 6.

Both characters can be played from a first-person or a third-person perspective, with Grace’s segments leaning into the classic survival-horror experience, and Leon’s missions designed to be more action-oriented.
