The mythological universe created by Rick Riordan is set to expand. Following a successful two-season run of its Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, also based on the author’s books, Disney+ and 20th Television announced that a live-action TV adaptation of Kane Chronicles is in development.
The project comes two years after a film adaptation of the spin-off series was canned (Kane-d?) at Netflix, with Angela Robinson (How to Get Away with Murder) writing and executive producing alongside Riordan. Additional details remain under wraps, but the show’s logline reads, “When their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world.”
Set in the same universe as Camp Half-Blood Chronicles, which includes Percy Jackson, The Kane Chronicles trilogy is based on Egyptian mythology. It follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who have magical powers and are descendants of the two pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great, spanning The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow.
As for its Greek counterpart, the third season will premiere in November. Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri are set to return as Percy, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood, respectively, in the upcoming outing that adapts the third novel in the series, The Titan’s Curse. Levi Chrisopulos (Peter Pan: The Musical), Olive Abercrombie (Mayfair Witches), Kate McKinnon (Barbie), Ming-Na Wen (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Jennifer Beals (The L Word) are among the new cast additions, with Courtney B. Vance taking over as Zeus from the late Lance Reddick.
Per the description, Season 3 will take Percy “off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.” It isn’t the first time the journey has made it to the screen — Thor Freudenthal previously took a stab with Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, the sequel to the 2010 film adaptation of The Lightning Thief.
