Apple Introduces New Updates To Final Cut Pro X

Final Cut Pro is a programme familiar to those in the fields of video-editing and filming, professional or otherwise. For individuals working in that line, it makes for a reliable companion and a dependable friend, despite the love-hate relationship that almost always exists between the creator and the software.

With the newest update to Apple’s most popular version of it, Final Cut Pro X (FCPX), it seems that love, rather than hate, is set to be in the air – especially for industry professionals.

Building upon its previous update in December 2017, this latest change will introduce the following:

  • A groundbreaking format termed “ProRes Raw”, which allows editors to import, edit, and grade RAW footage data in the combined workflow of RAW video and ProRes performance.
  • Atomos and DJI support for ProRes Raw, available as a free update for Atomos Sumo 19 owners and Shogun Inferno devices. Users of the DJI Inspire 2 drone and Zenmuse Super 35mm camera system will have to wait for a forthcoming update to get hold of the feature.
  • In-app closed captioning tools
  • New features to FCP companion apps, Motion and Compressor.

Seeing as to how Apple has finally provided support for their own industry-standard codec ProRes, professionals could seek to benefit from the move.

Slated for release on April 9, 2018, FCPX will be available as a free update for existing users, and for S$448.98 on the Mac App Store.
