Bandai has transformed its classic Tamagotchi digital pet handheld device into its most compact form yet, with a miniature Tamagotchi ring designed to be worn as an accessory.
Measuring just 28 × 23 × 35 mm, the Tamagotchi ring features a fully playable game alongside a colour LCD screen, allowing users to feed and care for their digital pet all while the device sits on their fingers. Similar to the classic devices, players will be able to grow over 30 different Tamagotchi depending on how they care for their hatched eggs, with some secret characters also waiting to be discovered.
While classic Tamagotchi devices are already quite small in size, able to be carried around in a pocket or attached to bags via keychains, the Tamagotchi ring takes portability to the next level and blurs the line between wearable technology and an actual fashion accessory, especially since the device comes in three colours – Gold and Silver metallic-plated variants, or a more glossy pearl finish.
The Tamagotchi ring also comes with a rechargeable LiPo battery, with the device coming with a dedicated charging case instead of using the usual charging cable, alongside an included ball chain, meaning it can be used not only as a ring, but also hung around the neck like a pendant. While the device features the familiar three-button layout below its screen, users will actually operate the game itself using two separate buttons on the left and right.
For now, the Tamagotchi ring is only available in Japan and costs ¥7,700 (roughly S$62), with pre-orders already open. The device also comes in ring sizes 10 and 14, with an additional spacer included that allows for further adjustments.
