A New Star Wars Movie Is Reportedly In The Works With The Director Of Sleight

As we await news for the next Star Wars movie, after Lucasfilm has announced that they will be taking a break from producing Star Wars films in lieu of their Disney+ TV shows, it seems that a new Star Wars project is slowly taking shape.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director J.D. Dillard (Sleight) and writer Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) have been tapped on to develop a new feature-length film for the franchise. Though it is unsure yet if the movie will be receiving a theatrical release or is headed for Disney’s streaming service.

Not much else is known about the film, including the plot, character and details of the setting, Dillard’s involvement with the film is also unconfirmed as he is still in talks with the studio.

Aside from this movie project, fans are still awaiting confirmation on a possible film by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, a possible trilogy of films by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, and the much talked about Star Wars film by Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige himself.

What’s interesting is that Dillard actually has a history with the franchise, having made a cameo in The Rise of Skywalker as the masked Stormtrooper FN-1226 (via CBR).

For now, all we can do is sit by and await official confirmation from Lucasfilm on the status future Star Wars movies. But at least we know for a fact that the second season of The Mandalorian will be dropping later this year.
