Resident Evil Requiem will be getting its first piece of post-launch DLC soon, although fans eager to hop onto this new “mini-game” must first complete the game’s campaign in order to access it.

Speaking to Japanese news site Denfaminicogamer, game director Koshi Nakanishi described the upcoming DLC as a mini-game “based on the battles of the main game” and that it will be unlocked after clearing the main campaign. Producer Masato Kumazawa also added that completing Resident Evil Requiem’s story mode during Golden Week (a Japanese holiday spanning 29 April to 6 May 2026) would be “just right” to be able to play this upcoming mode, hinting at an early May release for the DLC.
Based on the team’s description of the DLC, this does allude to the return of a Resident Evil franchise staple, the Mercenaries Mode, a score-based arcade mini-game where players can face off against waves of zombies in familiar locations. The mode first made its appearance in 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and has been a bonus mode in almost all of its mainline releases since then.
If this mini-game will, in fact, be Mercenaries Mode, it’ll be interesting to see which new character players will get to play as. Past iterations of the bonus mode saw iconic villains being made playable, including the legendary killer Hunk in games like the Resident Evil 4 remake, or Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village. Resident Evil Requiem’s version could follow suit by making its own villains playable, like Dr Victor Gideon, Zeno, or even familiar faces who made an appearance in the game, like Sherry Birkin or members of the Hound Wolf Squad.

In any case, it seems fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out the true nature of this mysterious new mini-game, provided they complete the campaign first. Resident Evil Requiem is also set to receive some form of story expansion further down the line, and although the studio remains hush-hush about what that would entail, fans are hoping that it would finally reveal the identity of Leon’s wife.
