Fans will soon be able to hunt monsters from the convenience of their smartphones, as an ambitious free-to-play mobile game Monster Hunter Outlanders is currently being developed by Capcom and TiMi Studio Group, the folks behind Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokémon Unite.

Speaking to IGN, a representative from the studio described the game as a “new, fully-featured game” in the Monster Hunter franchise, offering multiplayer support and expansive exploration, opting for a free-to-play model with in-app purchases.
“It’s time for mobile players to fully enjoy what makes Monster Hunter one of the most beloved franchises in gaming,” said TiMi Studio Group producer Dong Huang, “Monster Hunter Outlanders not only offers players an authentic hunting experience, but it does it in a massive open world featuring the community and social systems players are looking for today.”
Judging by its trailer, the game seems to show off a massive open world spanning different biomes, featuring appearances from iconic monsters in the series such as Great Jagras. Traversal tools can be seen in action, such as a grappling hook and glider, to help players navigate the expansive environments with ease. From the short snippets of gameplay seen throughout the trailer, the title does look graphically impressive for a mobile game, echoing the same realistic art style as the more recent titles in the franchise.

The Monster Hunter series has grown to become a huge success since its entrance to the global market with 2018’s Monster Hunter World, which was Capcom’s bestselling title to date, leading to multiple series-related titles over recent years. These include 2020’s Monster Hunter movie, 2021’s Monster Hunter Rise, and even an augmented reality mobile game Monster Hunter Now, which was made in collaboration with Pokémon Go developer Niantic. The next major release in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds, is set for a 28 February 2025 launch.
Judging from TiMi’s pedigree with mobile titles, let’s hope that Monster Hunter Outlanders can provide an authentic mobile hunting experience, although the lack of a release date means that fans might still have a long way to go before getting their hands on the game.
