Gameplay

Until Dawn takes many cues from Heavy Rain. It is a story driven game where the choices you make matter greatly. It is designed to be played multiple times with each playthough coming in at around 10 hours. Choices the characters make will impact the story in many ways. The idea is to save as many of the characters as possible. If a character is killed in the game, its a permanant death. It is possible to save all the characters in one playthrough but it is also possible to have them all killed. This leads to many different story choices and paths. The game makes use of the Dualshock 4 motion controls quite a lot. This harks back to the game originally being a PS3 Move title.

The Graphics

Until Dawn looks pretty fantastic. There were fears it wouldn’t look that great as it was originally developed for the PS3 and was only switched to PS4 in August of 2014. No need to worry. So far the animations are silky smooth and very believable. The environments are solid and the atmosphere given off by the game is super creepy.

Final Thoughts

Until Dawn has the potential to be something special. A survival horror where your choices matter and you can be the saviour of your group or the downfall of it. Rarely does a survival horror give you choices like this. If you watch horror films and always shake your head at the stupid decisions the characters make, you can now step in their shoes and make your own life or death choices.
