Warner Bros. Discovery Shifts ‘Dune 2’, ‘Aquaman 2’ And More To 2024

With writers and actors now on strike, studios have no choice but to make changes to their plans, whether that’s putting production on pause indefinitely, no longer promoting movies or in Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent case, shifting their slate of upcoming releases.

First on that list is Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic sequel, Dune 2. Warner Bros Discovery is strongly considering pushing Dune 2 from its current 3 November release to 2024. The film is a co-production with Legendary Entertainment, and according to Insiders, both studios have yet to confirm a move or a new release date.

The Color Purple is potentially looking at a new date too. The movie is a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the South during the early 1900s. A movie like The Color Purple can and would hinge on a robust awards campaign (Academy Awards, Golden Globes etc), and a prolonged strike can hamper that.

Aquaman 2, which is undergoing its third reshoot, is also potentially looking at a new 2024 release date. The Color Purple and Aquaman 2 are currently slated to release on 20 December and 25 December respectively.

Dune 2, Aquaman 2 and The Color Purple are also sizing up against other major releases from competing studios. The movies will be going up against Disney and Marvel Studios’ The Marvels on 10 November and Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Sony is also taking Apple Studios’ Napoleon to theatres on 22 November.
