The X-Files: Albuquerque Animated Comedy Spin-off In The Works

It seems that the trend now is for Disney to make live-action adaptations of their famous animated classics. However, the company is giving the X-Files the reverse treatment by adapting the TV series into a cartoon instead. The X-Files: Albuquerque will be an animated comedy spin-off from the beloved cult series.

Getting a similar treatment to Star Trek’s Lower Decks, the animated spin-off will not feature familiar faces from Mulder and Scully’s A-team. Instead we will be meeting a team of amateurish misfits who are in the same world of the X-Files. The official synopsis reads:

The potential series will center an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.

The series comes from 20th Television and Fox Entertainment and will be helmed byThe X-Files creator Chris Carter as executive producer along with Gabe Rotter. Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko from Netflix’s animated comedy Paradise PD will write the pilot episode. The animation studio selected to work on the show will be Bento Box Entertainment.

For fans who are hoping to catch a glimpse of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, don’t hold your breath as there are currently no plans of them being involved. As of now no other details no castings have been announced too. The series also marks Fox’s latest foray into a new animated project after their merger with Disney.

The X-Files: Albuquerque has been optioned for a script and presentation, but has yet to be greenlit as a full series.
