First Look At The Sandworms In Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Reboot

When it comes to tackling sci-fiction movies with the densely woven lore and complex characters, there’s no one more well-equipped than Denis Villeneuve. The director has proven himself time and time again with acclaimed films such as Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. This year, we will be able to witness his more ambitious project yet, the Dune reboot

The film will be based off Frank Herbert’s fantasy novel of the same name. It features intricately built desert planets with its extensive mythology, its chilling predatory sandworms and long-standing family feuds. The bizarre and complex world-building only serves to cement the fact that any Dune adaptation will be a challenging one.

While the trailers have yet to be released online officially, some theater goers have reportedly said that they witnessed it in cinemas (via Gamesradar+). However, fans can have a sneak peek at what the movie has in store via three newly revealed covers from Empire magazine.

The first two covers above will feature the members from one of the great noble houses of Landsraad, House Atreides and the indigenous Fremen people of the planet Arrakis respectively. From House Atreides is our young protagonist Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), with his father Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), Bene Gesserit witch Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), and  master-at-arms Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin).

As for the Fremen, there’s Stilgar the leader of one of the tribes (Javier Bardem) and tribe member Chani (Zendaya). Joining them is Liet-Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) and Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa). We also get a first look at the bone-chilling gigantic sandworms that roam the planet. According to them, the unfortunate figure in front of its colossal mouth is an unsuspecting Paul Atreides.

From these images, it looks like we are up for a spectacular trailer reveal for the Dune reboot on 9 September. For now, the film is slated for release in theaters on 18 December 2020.
