Netflix has made the decision to once again halt production for the second season of The Witcher following a string of positive COVID-19 results on the show at Arborfield Studios.
According to Deadline, four members of staff on the show have tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekends, prompting Netflix to carry out an “isolated round of testing of everyone involved in the show”. They add that those affected have been isolated, with no positive cases among the main cast.
A similar situation happened earlier in March 2020, when filming got halted after Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju, who will play Nivellen in Season 2, ended up testing positive for the coronavirus. Production eventually resumed months later in August.
Production in Arborfield Studios will resume once Netflix is confident that the set is completely safe for filming.
The Witcher season two is currently slated to release sometime in 2021. But that’s not all we’ll be getting to toss our coins to, as Netflix is also working on two spinoff series, the animated film Nightmare of the White Wolf, and prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which will also involv original series creator Andrzej Sapkowski.
