Taika Waititi Approached For Star Wars Film

2019 saw the end of the Skywalker saga with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but that doesn’t mean the entire franchise is over.

According to THR, Taika Waititi, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok has been approached to develop a new Star Wars movie.

Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi is not new to the Star Wars franchise having directed the final episode of season one of The Mandalorian. The Kiwi filmmaker even voiced IG-11, the killer-droid-turned-nanny in the TV show (which, by the way coming back with a season 2, but we digress).

It seems apt that Waititi has been chosen to work on a new Star Wars film. Waititi has previously worked closely with Marvel’s producer and studio president Kevin Feige (who’s also working on his own Star Wars movie). He was responsible for saving the Thor series and is also tapped to direct Thor: Love and Thunder. Apart from that, Waititi is also in charge of the ongoing live-action adaptation of the legendary anime Akira

With so much on his plate, it is unclear how this sought-after filmmaker is going to manage a project as big as Star Wars too. Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to make a comment.
