Star Wars’ Kelly Marie Tran To Star In Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon

Disney has finally released the teaser trailer for their newest animated fantasy movie Raya and the Last Dragon, where we finally get our first look at Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran as the lead heroine tasked with restoring peace within her world by searching for the titular last dragon.

The film is set in the fictional realm of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived in harmony. However, over the past centuries, dragons have been sacrificing themselves to save humanity from an evil force that threatens their lives. 500 years have passed and the evil has returned. So it up to the lone warrior Raya to track down the last surviving dragon to try and save Lumandra once again.

Alongside Kelly Marie Tran as the voice of Raya is Awkwafina of Crazy Rich Asians fame, who was previously cast to voice the dragon Sisu.

The first sneak peeks from the film was released during 2019’s D23 Expo where viewers were treated to footages filled with cleverly crafted martial arts choreography and a lush, green land that lends a very strong Southeast Asian vibe.

The film is co-directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6), Carlos Lopez Estrada (Blindspotting), Paul Briggs (Zootopia), and John Ripa, with a script written by Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians) and Qui Nguyen.

Raya and the Last Dragon is scheduled to release on Disney+ and in theatres on 5 March 2021.
