Jared Leto Returns As The Joker In Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Probably no one expected Jared Leto to reprise his role as The Joker in the DCEU after being seemingly snubbed for Joaquin Phoenix in what would be an Oscar-winning performance, but here he is.

Deadline reports that the actor will be coming back to play as the Clown Prince of Crime in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which has officially been renamed Zack Snyder’s Justice League. This means Leto will be returning alongside Ben Affleck as Batman, who has also come out of Bat-retirement to film new scenes in the now four-episode miniseries on HBO Max.

What the new scenes with Leto’s Joker will be remains to be seen, though we know that he is currently on set with Affleck, as well as Ray Fisher (Cyborg), and Amber Heard (Hera). Though Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) was also initially listed as part of the reshoots, it is not yet known whether she was involved in these particular ones with Leto.

Leto’s involvement in Zack Snyder’s Justice League seems to be a one-off, though, as there doesn’t seem to be any plans to include him in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Also, with his Morbius duties with Sony and Marvel, it seems unlikely that he will continue his laughing act… for now, at least.

Regardless, those who have been fans of Leto’s Joker would be thrilled to know that the singer-actor will be coming back to terrorise Gotham City with his tattooed visage, even if he left the role on dubious terms with Warner Bros.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is slated to premiere on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
