Singapore Comic Con (SGCC) 2022 Event Highlights

Singapore Comic Con (SGCC) is back after a two year break, and with its return comes 350 exhibitors and 430 brands, and thousands of visitors on Day 1, making it one of the biggest SGCC event yet.

From the artist alley to various brand booths, this year’s SGCC had one common obsession: Pokémon. This should come to no surprise that Pokémon is hot right now following the recent release of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

Though there were no Pokémon parades, Pokémon lovers can look forward to a huge fan booth, a trading centre and plenty of merchandise, from posters, art prints, pins and keychains just to name a few,

Mighty Jaxx is a booth not to be missed. The local toy maker has a number of their popular collectible collections on display for both anime and pop-culture lovers, including their new Stranger Things line, their adorable SpongeBob SquarePants collection and their ever popular One Piece collectible.

Fans can also purchase collectibles and blind boxes at the booth if they feel inclined to. Even if you’re controlling yourself from impulse buying (we get it, trust us), visitors can still take a couple of memorable photos with live-sized statues of some of Mighty Jaxx’s famous designs, or even turn themselves into a limited edition collector’s item at the booth’s photo area.

Transformers: Earthspark panel saw voice actors Jon Jon Briones, Benni Latham and Diedrich Bader of the latest Transformers animated series join in SGCC live via Zoom, with host and actor Bobby Tonelli, as they discussed their favourite moments from the new Nickelodeon show. Fans were also treated to a screening of the first two episodes of the latest Transformers animated show.

Transformers is quite a hit this year too with a giant booth dedicated to the franchise, aptly shaped as leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime. If fans were not excited for the new Transformers: Earthspark series or the new Transformers: Rise of the Beasts film, they will be now after SGCC.

Of course, there are plenty of other booths for geeks to explore including premium statue maker Queen Studios, the over indulgent cuteness that is Tokidoki, as well as comic artists from all over the world who are more than happy to sign your comics and prints right on the spot! If you;’re into Cosplay, you’re in for a treat too. Check out more photos from the event below:
