Retro-FPS Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Fires Up The Nostalgia

Shooters have always been a mainstay in video games, and the evolution of the genre has largely resulted in modern spectacles that deliver visually. However, Auroch Digital and Focus Entertainment are bucking the trend with the reveal of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun at the Warhammer Skulls showcase, a ’90s shooter that takes us back in time.

Players will take on the role of a Space Marine, equipped with that classic boltgun and ready to splatter all sorts of Choas Space Marines and daemons standing in your way. The way the game looks is simply excellent, evoking that authentic feel of the past with the sprite work and the exploding enemies into bloody chunks.

While the trailer did not exactly show too much gameplay, Auroch Digital has shared that players can look forward to running, jumping, and charging across huge levels to “shoot, shred and slice the worst heretics across the galaxy” in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.

“Auroch Digital is proud to be working with Games Workshop again and Focus Entertainment on Boltgun. As a team of massive Warhammer 40,000 fans, this game has been brewing since 2018, and we’re so excited we can FINALLY shout about it from the rooftops! We can’t wait for players to get their hands on it and to see their reactions,” said Nina Adams, Operations Director at Auroch Digital.

It is likely we will see more weapons come into the mix, and fulfilling the power fantasy of being a Space Marine is an experience we can all get behind. Anyone who has enjoyed the likes of Doom, Quake, or even Duke Nukem will feel right at home here.

There is no set release date for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun just yet, but it will be arriving on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2023.
