As though willed by the Codex Astartes itself, Saber Interactive has joined forces with Focus Entertainment and Games Workshop once again, announcing the development of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 following the massive success of last year’s sequel.
This news comes a mere seven months after the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in September last year, which proved to be a successor worthy of the Emperor’s praise by not only shattering concurrent player count records for the Warhammer franchise on Steam, but also reaching a major milestone of six million players as of Januaray 2025. It comes as no surprise, then, that a sequel is already in development, with Focus Entertainment releasing the teaser image below to coincide with the announcement.

“Your duty is not done.” Focus Entertainment wrote on their social media channels, “We’re pleased to announce that the development for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 has officially begun. We’ll share updates on this new title when the time is right. For now, our focus remains on delivering the best possible content for Space Marine 2 players.” Unsurprisingly, the released image also confirms the return of Titus, main protagonist and all-around tough guy of both the previous games.
“Players can look forward to an immersive campaign, a multiplayer mode, and innovations that will redefine the standards of third-person action games,” said Deputy CEO of Focus Entertainment Publishing John Bert in a press release announcing the game’s development, “we will take all our learnings and apply them to an even bigger and more spectacular game for the third instalment, as an opportunity to create a true love letter to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.” added CEO of Saber Interactive Matthew Karch.

While the arrival of a third game might seem too soon considering the recency of its predecessor’s release, Games Workshop notes that the game “is likely years away from release”, assuring fans that Space Marine 2 will continue to receive support over the next few years, providing additional content such as new missions, upgrades and enemies, alongside the highly-requested horde mode.
Space Marine 2 released on 9 September 2024 and has seen a slew of content drops after launch, most recently being its “Datavault” update 6.0 that introduced a Necron-themed Tomb map in its Eternal War mode and a new Biovore Tyranid enemy type.
