Tokyo’s Life-Sized RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Gets Visual Makeover By Original Designer Ahead Of Removal

The life-sized RX-0 Unicorn Gundam situated in front of Diver City shopping centre in Odaiba, Tokyo might be getting removed in late August 2026, but that’s not stopping it from going out with a bang, as it is currently undergoing a farewell tour of sorts, and is set to receive a makeover ahead of its final months.

As reported by a post on the official Gundam website, the 19.7-metre tall statue, which has been on location since September 2017, will be getting a visual makeover by Hajime Katoki, original mecha designer of the Unicorn Gundam. The statue is set to be decked out in an array of decals, with its new look dubbed the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC Final form. These changes to the statue’s design will be made available for visitors to see starting from 20 June 2026.

In addition, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam will continue its final batch of regular nightly light-up shows, which sees the statue converting from it’s “Unicorn Mode” to its “Destroy Mode”, a sequence which sees its armour plating shift, its horns split, and dozens of internal lights glow.

To celebrate the final months of the installation, the Gundam Cafe Kitchen Car food truck, which operates next to the statue or near Diver City, will also be giving out Gundam headbands with each purchase in June, July, and August, allowing fans to wear them and snap some final photos with the Unicorn Gundam as a keepsake.
