Academy Sets 2027 And 2028 Oscar Ceremonies Before Move To YouTube

March marks an important month for the film and TV industry, as it’s typically when the Oscar ceremonies are held — and that isn’t changing anytime soon. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the dates for the 2027 and 2028 Oscars, the two final shows to be broadcast on ABC before a departure to YouTube.

Oscars 2027

The former, serving as the 99th edition of the event, is set to take place on 14 March 2027, followed by its centennial counterpart on 5 March 2028. Both ceremonies will begin at 7pm ET and air from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, with a venue change to Los Angeles’ LA LIVE complex planned from 2029 through 2039. A host has yet to be announced for either show.

The most recent telecast was held on 16 March and saw Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another winning big with six accolades in total, including a first Best Picture win for the filmmaker, who had been nominated 14 times across different categories prior. Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are among the list of first-time winners, taking home Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor, respectively, for Sinners, alongside Autumn Durald Arkapaw for Best Cinematographer — becoming the first woman to do so in the category.

Among others, “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters earned the first win for the K-pop genre (Best Original Song), with the live-action short category ending in the first tie in 14 years, shared between The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva, while Amy Madigan received her first award for Best Supporting Actress. A new category recognising best casting was introduced as well, and the 2028 Oscars will add to the list with a dedicated stuntwork category.
