‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Sequel Set For April 2026

Mario and the gang will be back on the big screen for another adventure with The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel set to open in theatres on 3 April 2026, which was announced by Nintendo during Mario Day.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who directed the first movie and are known for their work on Teen Titans Go!, will return to helm the sequel. The Super Mario Bros. Movie also previously crossed the US$1 billion mark, becoming the third highest-grossing animated film at the box office of all time.

“We’ll let you know the details once we’re ready to share more. This time too, the staff at Illumination and Nintendo are working together,” said Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto in the Mario Day broadcast, “We’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story. We hope you’ll look forward to it!”

Development on the sequel is in the early stages, and we’re excited to see how things unfold for Mario and gang in the upcoming movie. In the meantime, there’s plenty of upcoming Mario content releasing this year, including Princess Peach: Showtime and the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Nintendo Switch remake.
