As the Age of Apocalypse looms near, Marvel Animation and Disney+ have dropped a new trailer for their upcoming X-Men ’97 Season 2, offering a lowdown on all the major mutant heroes in action when the series returns next month.
Aptly titled ‘Roll Call’, it puts the spotlight on a massive roster across different timelines and locations, from beloved icons Storm, Rogue, Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey, to newcomers such as Havoc, Polaris, Archangel, Strong Guy, Psylocke, and Emma Frost. As the central threat, Apocalypse naturally appears in the clip, while X-Corp — which counts Cyclops, Jean, Bishop, Nightcrawler, Polaris, Beast, and Rogue among its ranks — is set to debut here alongside X-Factor, the government-sponsored team in the 1990s that included Havok, Multiple Man, Polaris, Quicksilver, Strong Guy, and Wolfsbane.
A new key visual was also unveiled, turning them into cover art on old-school comic books:
The synopsis reads, “X-Men ’97 Season 2 continues with the heroic mutant team of X-Men, divided and thrown across different eras in time as they struggle to navigate their return home. Meanwhile, back in the 1990s, suspicious foes and new strains of mutant intolerance are on the rise in the wake of the X-Men’s absence.”
Spanning nine episodes, the sophomore outing is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Julia Lewald, Eric Lewald, Larry Houston, and Beau DeMayo, with episodes written by JB Ballard, DeMayo, Bailey Moore, Antony Sellitti, Brian Ford Sullivan, and Mariah Wilson. It releases on Disney+ on 1 July and has been renewed for a fourth season.
