Mortal Kombat Star Kerri Hoskins Dons Signature Sonya Blade Outfit After 25 Years

Mortal Kombat powerhouse Sonya Blade may have been a late addition to the roster of the very first game, but that doesn’t mean that the character is falling behind on the popularity ladder. The US Special Forces officer, after all, continues to be a mainstay in the series – barring Mortal Kombat 2 and Mortal Kombat: Deception – and has been brought to life through voice and motion-capture work over the years, with one of the most memorable portrayals coming from voice actress Kerri Hoskins.

25 years after her debut in Mortal Kombat 3, the star pulled a surprise by publicly donning Sonya’s outfit for the first time since then. Taking to Instagram, she shares that the decision was born out of popular demand, and welcomes comparisons to Sonya-of-the-past, while also teasing future appearances of her character costume.

Hoskins’ post was picked up by franchise creator Ed Boon, who praised her efforts on Twitter. “25 years after playing Sonya Blade in MK3, Kerri Hoskins puts on her Sonya costume again, looking exactly the same…proving the world isn’t fair as the rest of us age,” the post reads. “Either that…or maybe she actually takes care of herself. ;)”. Looking good and klassy there, indeed.

It’s easy to forget that 25 years have passed since Hoskins’ stint, especially given how she can still pass off as Sonya even now. The fighter will be featured in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, which is currently delayed indefinitely, and is set to be played by acting neophyte Jessica McNamee instead of Hoskins, but that’s no surprise – the latter did not appear in both of the original Mortal Kombat films, anyhow.
