‘Metal Gear Solid 3’ Remake First Footage Reveals Glorious Stealth & Stunning Visuals

With the amount of fanfare and high praise for Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, its upcoming remake certainly has sky high expectations to live up to. Fortunately for fans, a first look at Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater paints a promising step in the right direction, with faithful scene recreations and stunning visuals in tow.

A brief trailer revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview Showcase showed off the original game’s signature stealth gameplay in action. Naked Snake is seen sneaking through tall grasses, crossing through the water while close to a crocodile, and taking out an enemy with a Silencer-equipped pistol against the gorgeously-rendered backdrop of Tselinoyarsk.

The end of the reel also confirmed the remake will be running on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, with Konami saying its environments are captured in-game and in real time. Alongside the sneaking action, several close-ups of animals — including a slithering snake and swimming frog — are unveiled in great detail.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was first announced in May, under the name Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. According to Konami, it will feature “the original voice characters, rich storyline, and expansive features of combat survival in harsh environments evolved with unprecedented graphics and immersive sound”.

The game was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004 as a prequel to the original Metal Gear. It introduced a camouflage component to the franchise’s stealth-based gameplay and close-quarter combat mechanics, which are expected to carry over to Metal Gear Solid Δ. As of now, no release has been set for the remake, but it’ll come to PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
