Konami Alerts Fans With ‘Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater’ Remake & ‘Master Collection’ Surprises

It’s always nice to see something classic make a comeback, especially if it’s something that fans have been pining for a long time. While catering to the fans is not something we usually associate with Konami, even with that amazing Suikoden news, the reveal of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, is certainly a step in the right direction.

Set for release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, this will be a faithful remake of the original game but made for a new generation. The origin story of Big Boss as well as how his legendary status came about will once again graced the screen, and we simply cannot wait.

Perhaps more importantly, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will be bringing back the original voice actors to bring the characters to life, so hearing David Hayter once again will bring those good memories rushing back in an instance. In addition, the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake will include “unprecedented graphics and immersive sounds” along with its already rich storyline and expansive take on combat and survival in the jungles.

The remake news isn’t the only thing Konami was showing off at the PlayStation Showcase. Leading up to the release of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, fans will also get to relive the adventures of Solid Snake as well as part of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1. This complete package will include the following titles:

  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection version)

“Currently, the development team are working together to create the environment where fans can enjoy the Metal Gear series as an experience on the latest platforms. We are remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved instalments of the Metal Gear series, revealing the origin story of Snake, as Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater,” shared the development team.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1

“We are working hard for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience. Simultaneously, we will sequentially deliver the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection series, the most complete compilation that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection allow fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms.”

Although it is really exciting to see the remake and collection coming, the lack of input from series creator Hideo Kojima still doesn’t feel quite right. While the modern releases might still be excellent titles, it is a bittersweet development considering how much of an influence Kojima had on the genre and gaming as a whole thanks to the franchise.

The Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake does not yet have a release date, but the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1 will arrive sometime in Autumn 2023.
