Deadpool & Wolverine might be this summer’s most anticipated film, but Hugh Jackman’s ( X-Men) Wolverine was originally not intended to return. Marvel CEO Kevin Feige told Jackman not to return after his character’s story had seemingly concluded with 2017’s Logan, but things have changed since then.

And Jackman is ready to bring the claws out once more, after contemplating the idea while on a drive. “I was about an hour into the drive,” he told Empire in an interview. “And that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Kevin Feige however, had his doubts, believing that Wolverine’s story had a satisfying enough ending with Logan. “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige added. “You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.”
Wolverine’s story isn’t done yet, and the film will show a “different side of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies,” Jackman teased, “It’s great for Deadpool to have someone who will punch him in the face.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to premiere in cinemas on 26 July 2024.
