Marvel Planted Fake Leaks To Hide ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Cameos

Deadpool & Wolverine, one of this year’s most awaited films, is hitting theatres with a whirlwind of celebrity cameos and unexpected surprises. While fans eagerly anticipate the collaboration between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film’s cameo lineup has been a major topic of discussion, stoked by director Shawn Levy during the press run. However, it turns out some of the information circulating about the film’s guest appearances might not be entirely accurate.

Wendy Jacobson, the executive producer, hinted during a GamesRadar+ interview that not all disclosed details about the cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine are true. This revelation indicates Marvel Studios’ strategic use of misdirection to preserve some of the film’s most exciting secrets. Jacobson suggests that some of the leaked information on the internet and in interviews might have been intentionally misleading to safeguard the film’s surprises.

“I can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick. Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn’t,” Jacobson added.

The secrecy extends to potentially deceptive statements surrounding Vinnie Jones’ character, Juggernaut. Initially, Jones himself suggested he wouldn’t appear in the film, only for a recent trailer to seemingly contradict his claims. This type of misdirection has kept fans guessing and revising their theories about which characters will actually appear. Speculations have included appearances by characters like Lady Deadpool, believed to be played by Ryan Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, and even Taylor Swift, though recent reports refute Swift’s involvement.

Director Shawn Levy also weighed in on the rumours, acknowledging the rampant online speculation while clarifying that not all whispers are accurate. He particularly addressed the rumours about Taylor Swift, denying her participation despite fan theories linking her to the film due to a teaser’s ambiance reminiscent of her evermore album.

This strategy of secrecy is not new to Marvel; similar tactics were employed during the promotions for Spider-Man: No Way Home, where certain cameos were outright denied only to be revealed upon the film’s release.

With Deadpool & Wolverine set to premiere in a few days, fans are bracing for a cascade of surprises, and given Marvel’s track record with misdirection, viewers might still find themselves stunned by who appears on screen. That being said, those looking to avoid spoilers may find navigating social media increasingly treacherous.
