Sony Pictures has delayed Marvel’s Spider-Man 4 by a week to make room for Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey, with the film now slated for release on 31 July 2026.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the delay allows more breathing room for stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, who are set to appear in both films. The Odyssey, Universal’s feature adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, will hit theatres on 17 July 2026 and have an all-star cast rounded off by Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.
Sony’s next Spidey adventure on the other hand, which is currently untitled, will be helmed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ Destin Daniel Cretton, with its script being written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, both previously writing 2021’s, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Apart from its current cast of Holland and Zendaya, no other details of the film have been revealed so far, including its supporting cast and synopsis.
The latest film will mark Holland’s fourth entry in Sony’s rebooted Spider-Man film series, which kicked off with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and has seen massive success, with its latest entry, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, garnering US$1.953 billion at the global box office on its US$200 million budget.
In the meantime, Marvel fans can look forward to Thunderbolts in May 2025, which will see Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent) and Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster) team up as a rag-tag team of antiheroes, followed by The Fantastic Four: First Steps on 25 July, bringing together Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) as the titular superhero team. Most recently, Disney’s Captain America: Brave New World hit theatres last week, and saw Anthony Mackie take on the mantle as the iconic shield-wielding hero.
Spider-Man 4 will swing into theatres on 31 July 2026.
