Lin-Manuel Miranda Cast As Messenger God Hermes In Percy Jackson Series

Lin-Manuel Miranda has joined Disney+’s upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Best known for Hamilton, Moana, and Encanto, the three-time Tony winner will be guest-starring as Hermes, the Greek messenger God.

Hermes doesn’t play a huge role in the first Percy Jackson book, so it’s likely that Miranda won’t have a huge appearance in the show. Nathan Fillion previously inhabited the role in the 2013 film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and it will be interesting to see how Miranda’s version differs from Fillion’s. Will we see Hermes rap?

Miranda joins Walker Scobell (The Adam Project), who will be playing the titular Percy Jackson. Other cast members include Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Dictator) as reluctant camp counselor and god of wine Dionysus, and Canadian wrestler Adam Copeland (also known as Edge) as Ares, the aggressive god of war.

Rick Riordan, who created the fantasy novels the series is based on, will write the pilot episode with Jon Steinberg. James Bobin will direct, while Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz will oversee the series.

The series is expected to hit Disney+ some time in 2024.
