The adventures of HUNTR/X is set to continue, as Netflix has secured a deal for a sequel to the 2025 animated phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters, with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, this new deal between Netflix and the duo will be a multi-year writing and directing pact for the KPop Demon Hunters IP, with Sony Pictures Animation also on board for the sequel. While no release window has been announced for the upcoming film, it will likely be some time, as the project is still in its earliest stages, with Kang and Appelhans only reported to be beginning work after the 2026 Oscars.
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning,” said Kang in a statement, with Appelhans adding that “These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them and watch them evolve – and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation and story can come together.”
This new Netflix deal for more KPop Demon Hunters projects should come as no surprise, considering the massive success of the animated film, which rose the Netflix charts to become the streamer’s most-watched movie of all time, spawning numerous hit songs such as “Golden” and “How It’s Done”.

For those somehow still uninitiated, KPop Demon Hunters centres on a fictional K-pop girl group, HUNTR/X, consisting of Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Woo), who lead double lives as demon hunters, and face off against a rival boy band called Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons. While it remains to be seen how the sequel will expand upon the original’s narrative, Kang had previously expressed interest in further fleshing out the backgrounds of Mira and Zoey.
