Universal Studios has officially set the wheels in motion for a new addition to the Jurassic World saga, with a slated release date of 2 July 2025. The studio is currently in talks with David Leitch, a distinguished action filmmaker, to helm this highly anticipated project. While negotiations are in their preliminary phase, Leitch’s potential involvement has already sparked considerable excitement among fans of the franchise, as reported by Deadline.
Leitch, known for his work on high-octane hits like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, brings a wealth of experience in crafting action-packed cinematic experiences. His recent project, Bullet Train, further cements his status as a go-to director for thrilling action movies. Leitch is also preparing for the release of The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, in May 2024.
This upcoming Jurassic World film promises a fresh perspective on the beloved dinosaur universe. David Koepp, who penned the scripts for Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, is onboard as the screenwriter, ensuring the legacy of the original films is honoured while forging new paths. Executive producer Steven Spielberg, whose visionary direction launched the Jurassic Park phenomenon, will oversee the project.
Notably, the new installment will diverge from its recent predecessors, with stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, as well as original trilogy luminaries Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill, not expected to return.
Since its inception with Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in June 1993, the franchise has amassed over US$6 billion globally, with the latest film, Jurassic World Dominion, achieving over US$1 billion in worldwide box office revenue. Despite mixed reviews, Dominion‘s financial success demonstrates the enduring appeal and potential of the series to captivate audiences around the globe.
With an official release date confirmed and Universal’s strategic moves to secure a visionary director like David Leitch, the next chapter in the Jurassic World series is poised to usher in an exciting era of prehistoric adventure.
The untitled Jurassic World movie will open in cinemas on 2 July 2025.
