The latest instalment of the Jurassic World series is making significant strides, with Scarlett Johansson confirmed to join the cast. Currently in production in Thailand, this upcoming film — often referred to as Jurassic World 4 or Jurassic City — marks the seventh entry in the iconic dinosaur franchise.
Scarlett Johansson, a veteran of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), expressed her enthusiasm for the next Jurassic World film in a recent interview with ComicBook.com. She highlighted the script’s quality, penned by David Koepp, who is returning to the franchise after a long hiatus (Koepp was the screenwriter for the original Jurassic Park).
“I’m an enormous Jurassic Park fan. It’s one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. I remember seeing it so vividly. It was like life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am,” Johansson recalled. “The script is so incredible. David Koepp wrote it. He returned after like 30 years to write the script. He’s so passionate about it, which is so awesome.”
Despite just wrapping up a decade-long run with Marvel as the Black Widow, Johansson’s passion for the Jurassic World franchise has been long-standing. “I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over ten years. I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it. The fact that it’s happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable,” she joked.
Joining Johansson are actors Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Wicked), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (6 Underground), Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and potentially two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book), although his role has not yet been confirmed.
Directing the new Jurassic World is Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Creator. The film continues from where Jurassic World: Dominion left off, which despite mixed reviews, grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. This commercial success has underscored the enduring popularity of the franchise, which has seen three of its films surpass the billion-dollar mark at the box office.
The anticipation for the untitled Jurassic World movie builds as it promises to bring fresh narratives and thrilling action under Edwards’ direction, with a script that re-engages one of the original architects of the franchise.
The untitled Jurassic World sequel roars into cinemas on 2 July 2025.
