‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Secures Release Date With Fiery Trailer

HBO’s House of the Dragon Season 3 now has an official premiere date, with the eight-episode season landing on HBO Max on 21 June 2026.

Its confirmed release date was announced alongside a two-minute-long trailer, which follows Emma D’Arcy’s Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen as she seeks control over King’s Landing to claim the Iron Throne. The trailer teases many battles to come, and certainly many deaths, with snippets of what seems to be two major conflicts, The Battle of the Gullet and The Butcher’s Ball. The former was meant to be featured in Season 2, but has now been shifted to Season 3.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon Season 3 is helmed by showrunner Ryan Condal, with Martin serving as co-creator and executive producer. Other directors for the season include Clare Kilner, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere.

House of the Dragon features an ensemble cast including Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, Phia Saban as Helaena Targaryen, and Matthew Needham as Larys Strong. New faces include James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Lord Roderick Dustin and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.

House of the Dragon is one of the many projects set in the Game of Thrones universe at Warner Bros. and HBO, as it is accompanied by A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the other prequel series that offers a more grounded take on its lore and follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg. Looking ahead, the studio also has an Arya Stark-focused sequel series in the works, alongside the franchise’s big-screen debut with a movie based on Aegon the Conqueror.

House of the Dragon Season 3 will premiere on HBO Max on 21 June 2026.
