Aegon’s Conquest

‘Game of Thrones’ Marks Big Screen Debut With ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ Movie

Warner Bros.’ Game of Thrones movie now has its official working title, Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, with the film being part of the studio’s slate of projects set for 2027 and beyond.

As reported by Variety, the new title was announced via Warner Bros.’ presentation at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, and while still a working title and subject to change in the coming months or years, Aegon’s Conquest will mark the first time the Game of Thrones franchise is making its way to the big screen.

While plot details remain scarce, Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will centre on Aegon I Targaryen, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and king on the Iron Throne. Adapted from George R. R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood” novel, the film is set to follow the origin story of Aegon, detailing his conquest to unite the kingdoms of Westeros under one ruler with his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, where he would eventually forge the iconic Iron Throne by melting down the swords of his fallen enemies.

Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will be written by Beau Willimon, who previously helmed the Netflix series House of Cards, and was a writer on both seasons of the Disney+ series Andor.

House of the Dragon (2022)

While this marks the first big-screen adventure for Game of Thrones, this isn’t the only Targaryen-related spin-off in the long-running franchise, as the announcement also arrives as HBO prepares for the third season of its House of the Dragon prequel set for June 2026, which centres on Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), the great-great-great-granddaughter of Aegon the Conqueror. Additionally, HBO has also ordered a second season of its other TV spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, an adaptation of the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series of novellas, which is expected to be released in 2027.
