Transformers G1 fans, you’re in for a treat. Aside from recent collaborations with Top Gun, Ghostbusters and, more recently, Back to the Future, Hasbro recently announced a new line of action figures featuring everyone’s favourite robots in disguise — in their original forms to boot!
This new line is called Transformers R.E.D (Robot Enhanced Design), and is the franchise’s take on the Star Wars Black Series or Marvel Legends 6-inch action figures. Similar to those series, these ones are highly poseable, with various points of articulation, alternate parts, and highly-detailed sculpts.
And of course, not forgetting the fact that they are genuine G1 action figures, and will no doubt appeal to fans of the original cartoon and toyline.
One thing to note is that these figures aren’t transformable, but it won’t really matter anyway, given how highly-detailed these bad boys are. From Optimus Prime’s Ion Blaster and Matrix of Leadership in his chest, to Megatron’s Fusion Cannon and Energon Cube, there’s plenty to love here, especially for OG fans.
Hasbro only announced Optimus Prime and Megatron for this new series, but Seibertron states that the likes of Soundwave could be releasing the same time as these two.
Speaking of which, the Transformers R.E.D line will launch on 1 September, and will only currently be Walmart-exclusive in the US. Each figure will retail for US$19.99. Pre-orders begin on 26 June.
Meanwhile, G1 fans can also look forward to the upcoming Netflix animated movie series Transformers: War for Cybertron coming 30 July and its respective toyline by Hasbro.
