There’s plenty of ways to die in a Final Destination film, and we’ve seen most of them in the past five films, which feature civilians as the film’s doomed protagonists who go on to die in gruesome ways. But what about a film centered around first responders? Final Destination: Bloodlines has officially begun filming in March 2024 after the SAG-AFTRA strikes with an intriguing new hook that attempts to switch up the franchise’s formula, marking the first Final Destination film in 13 years.
Producer Craig Perry shared the news on social media, posting that “After a long, hard slog through the pandemic and the strikes, Day One is finally in the can. 2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment in the franchise. To honor the occasion with another worldwide theatrical release (in IMAX, no less) is a rare and wonderful thing.”
Perry also said in an interview with Digital Spy in 2020 that he was toying with the idea of having the sixth film take place “in the world of first responders: EMTs, firemen, and police. These people deal with death on the front lines every day and make choices that can cause people to live or die.”
Creator Jeffrey Reddick teased to Dread Central in 2022 that the sixth instalment would be a “true Final Destination movie, but doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established,” though Reddick will not be involved in the film.
“We rely on their good judgment, expertise, and calm demeanor. So why not put those people in the nightmare situation where every choice can bring about life and death – but now for themselves?” adds Perry in the 2020 interview. “We’re thinking that world might be an interesting way into a Final Destination movie, and one which can also generate unique set pieces in a very credible way.”
Final Destination: Bloodlines will premiere on Max, though no release date has been confirmed.
