Final Destination 6 is officially happening!
After 12 years since the last entry, Final Destination 6 is in the works with Warner Brothers. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks) will co-direct the horror film with a script by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home). Guy Busick of the Scream revival movies and Lori Evans Taylor of Wicked Wicked Games will write this sixth entry.
The Final Destination franchise first started in 2000. The first movie saw a group of students who cheated death after getting off a plane minutes before it took off and later exploded. The movie became a box office success, grossing US$112.9 million worldwide against a US$23 million budget and launched four sequels.
Not all the sequels did well, but the Final Destination franchise managed to create its own fanbase. Each sequel was more gory than the one before and induced deep paranoia in their viewers. Characters died in freak accidents like an eye surgery gone wrong, suddenly getting hit by a bus, a roller coaster collapse, elevator decapitation, burned in a tanning bed and more.
Every Final Destination movie followed the same formula of freak accidents and utilised fear of death and being followed by an unseeable force as its driving horror elements. However, this sixth movie may take a different approach. What approach exactly has yet to be revealed as the movie is still in early stages of development, but in classic Final Destination fashion, viewers should expect this outing to be more twisted and gory than the last.
