Japan’s Nintendo Museum Gets Dining Awakening With Super Family Restaurant In Fall 2026

Since its opening in 2024, the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto — and the first of its kind in the world — has various treats for fans, including a giant installation of controllers from previous hardware like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), but its upcoming opening will be a different kind of treat…literally.

The attraction announced that the Super Family Restaurant is scheduled to open sometime this fall, with its name taking after the official name of the Super Famicom home console, released as SNES outside of Japan. The new space joins the existing Hatena Burger cafe, where visitors can enjoy original hamburgers and create their own, and per the official account on X/Twitter, will offer “a variety of menus, including food and desserts”.

A sneak peek at the upcoming eatery was also unveiled, though no other details were shared:

In it, a statue of The Legend of Zelda protagonist Link holding a bow stands as the centrepiece, accompanied by a Master Sword display on the right and what appears to be a Samus suit from Metroid on the other shelf.

Located in Uji City, the Nintendo Museum takes visitors on a learning and experiential journey that celebrates the history of entertainment through the many products it has created over the years. It operates on a lottery-based system, where tickets are sold through a random drawing, and visitors can apply for a specific date in advance. There’s a catch, however —a single ticket won’t grant access to all eight exhibitions, as the interactive exhibitions require digital coins to play, only 10 of which are given upon entry. From now to 7 September, two special admission pass designs are available as part of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary event.
