‘Final Destination 6’ Is “Ready To Go” Once Hollywood Strikes Ends

Final Destination franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick has some updates about the upcoming Final Destination 6 movie.

Speaking to Collider, Reddick assures that the sixth instalment to the horror franchise is “ready to go” once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends.

“There is a sixth one that’s planned the minute, again, the AMPTP comes back to the table, that movie is ready to go. It’s just nice as a genre fan to have something created that has become a part of the public zeitgeist. Again, I couldn’t have asked for more,” said Reddick.

Final Destination 6 will be directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks), Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) will produce alongside franchise producers Crag Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Guy Busick of the Scream revival movies and Lori Evans Taylor of Wicked Wicked Games will write this sixth entry.

The ongoing Writers and Actors strikes have put a halt to many projects in development but Reddick affirms that Final Destination 6 will be worth the wait. Of course, Reddick can’t share nor reveal specifics about the new story or the death scenes, but the creator said it “makes [him] smile”.

“And then Jon Watts who was behind the new Spider-Man movies came up with a story. I mean, I was just like, ‘This is the fucking A-team!’. Craig will tell me stuff, and I can’t repeat it obviously because I’m very good at that because I know I don’t wanna spoil anything, but every time that I’ve heard anything that they’re doing, or any scene that they’re doing or planning, it just makes me smile. The fans are gonna be – it’s gonna be well worth the wait.”

The Final Destination franchise first started in 2000. The first movie saw a group of students who cheated death after getting off a plane minutes before it took off and later exploded. The movie became a box office success, grossing US$112.9 million worldwide against a US$23 million budget and launched four sequels.

Not all the sequels did well, but the Final Destination franchise managed to create its own fanbase. Each sequel was more gory than the one before and induced deep paranoia in their viewers. Characters died in freak accidents like an eye surgery gone wrong, suddenly getting hit by a bus, a roller coaster collapse, elevator decapitation, being burned in a tanning bed and more.
