Dave Bautista And Eric Nam Lead ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Animated Film, Releasing Oct 2025

As the lore-rich world of Avatar: The Last Airbender continues to expand, new information about one of its upcoming animated films have surfaced. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Studios revealed its working title at CinemaCon 2024, and it’s none other than Aang: The Last Airbender (surprise!).

Dave Bautista and singer-songwriter Eric Nam will lead the voice cast as a villain character and Aang, respectively. The pair joins Dionne Quan (The Fairly OddParents) as Toph, Jessica Matten (Dark Winds) as Katara, Román Zaragoza (Ghosts) as Sokka, and Dante Basco — the only returning member from the OG cast — as Zuko.

Not much else is known about the movie, including plot details. According to speculation, it could focus on Aang’s exploits as the Avatar in between the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and sequel series The Legend of Korra. It’s currently slated for a release on 10 October 2025.

Lauren Montgomery, who served as storyboard artist on Season 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender and the entirety of The Legend of Korra, is directing. Aang: The Last Airbender is first in a trilogy of films from Avatar Studios, which is led by original creators and executive producers Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

The original series ran from 2005 to 2008, following Aang on his quest to master all four elements (water, earth, fire, and air) to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar and bring peace to the world by defeating the Fire Lord, the ruling supreme of the Fire Nation.

Since its finale, the series has continued for four seasons with The Legend of Korra, and received a string of comic books and prequel novels. M. Night Shyamalan added his own spin to a live-action adaptation in 2010, but that turned out to be a disaster, prompting Netflix to give it another shot at bringing the series to the silver screen

The eight-episode show would go on beat One Piece to top Netflix’s most-watched list in its opening weekend. A second and third season have been greenlit, but showrunner Albert Kim will no longer be attached to the project. DiMartino and Konietzko aren’t involved in this separate production, citing creative differences for their departure in 2020.
