‘Scary Movie 6’ Trailer Pokes Fun At Ghostface, ‘M3GAN’, ‘Sinners, ‘Wednesday’ And More

Ghostface is back — not just in Scream 7, but also in the sixth Scary Movie film. The trailer for the long-awaited revival of the horror spoof franchise, widely referred to as Scary Movie 6, has arrived with plenty of tongue-in-cheek nods to various popular horror titles from the last several years, including Get Out, the Terrifier movies, M3GAN, Weapons, The Substance, Sinners, Longlegs, Netflix’s Wednesday series, and of course, Scream, the inspiration behind the first film.

Opening with a parody of the Ghostface subway scene from Scream VI, it features many familiar costumed characters before a character corrects another on their pronouns while being stabbed, with a tagline promising that “every line will be crossed”. The clip is also scheduled to play ahead of Scream 7 screenings, which may mark the first time a theatrical release is attached to a trailer for another film that pokes fun at its franchise.

The satirical humour is nothing new for longtime fans, who can look forward to the first reunion between writers Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans — known collectively as the Wayans Brothers — in 18 years. The trio also serve as producers alongside Rick Alvarez, while Michael Tiddes (Naked) directs the forthcoming instalment. Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thom Zadra will executive produce.

Anna Faris (Mom) and Regina Hall (Girls Trip) are set to reprise their roles as Cindy and Brenda, joining returning cast members Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, Jon Abrahams, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott. Newcomers include the brothers’ nephew Damon Wayans Jr., their sister Kim Wayans, SNL alum Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber, and Benny Zielke.

Released in 2000, the original film was helmed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and went on to become one of the highest-grossing, R-rated horror flicks of all time with a US$278 million global haul. It followed a group of clueless teenagers who accidentally hit a man with their car, dump his body in a lake, and swear to secrecy, only to be hunted down by a bumbling serial killer, wearing a Ghostface mask and robe, a year after the incident.

Scary Movie 6 (or simply Scary Movie) heads to the big screen globally on 12 June.
