‘Cowboy Bebop’ Showrunners Join Space Mountain Movie As Writers

Space Mountain is one of Disneyland’s most beloved rides, and here’s a lesser known fact: Disney plans to turn the ride into a movie, similar to its ride-to-movie films like Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise. Cowboy Bebop showrunners Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec have officially joined the Space Mountain movie as scriptwriters, in the film’s first update in four years.

The project was first announced with Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold attached to the project, and Harold has since remained as producer, along with Rideback’s Jonathan Eirich and Tory Tunnell. A graphic novel based on the ride was published in 2014, which the movie could take inspiration from.

Space Mountain itself is an orbiting facility that experiments with time travel, so it’s likely there’ll be some time-travelling shenanigans involved. Most notably, the ride occasionally gets transformed into a Star Wars-themed experience, and has also had a past spooky Halloween edition in Shanghai.

We’re excited to see how a Space Mountain movie adapts the iconic ride, so stay tuned for more developments!
