‘Blade Runner 2099’ Begins Filming This June

Blade Runner 2099 is headed for Spain, as filming begins on the Michelle Yeoh-led TV series this June, according to an exclusive report from Collider. The series is intended as a sequel to the most recent Blade Runner 2049 film, which had its theatrical release in 2017.

Jonathan van Tulleken, who directed episodes of FX’s Shogun, will direct the series’ initial episodes, with Silka Luisa (Halo) as showrunner. Michael Green, who co-wrote Blade Runner 2049’s script, serves as executive producer, along with Ridley Scott, who was the previous film’s director.

Set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, the series follows Olwen, played by Yeoh, a replicant near the end of her life, as she embarks on a dangerous quest. No further plot or casting reveals have been announced as of yet, but with filming set to begin soon, more news is likely to unfold in the coming weeks.

Filming Blade Runner 2099 will take place in Prague and Spain from June to December, which could indicate a late 2025 or early 2026 release on Amazon Prime Video. We’re excited to see how the show expands the Blade Runner universe, and it’s certainly off to a running start.
