Blade Runner is back in action after the explosive events of Blade Runner 2049. A new TV series at Amazon Prime Video, Blade Runner 2099, is on the horizon, and starring Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once). according to Variety.
The series was first announced in 2021 with Amazon picking it up in 2022. Game of Thrones alum Jeremy Podeswa will both direct and executive produce the series, along with Blade Runner director Ridley Scott as an executive producer. Halo TV series producer Silka Luisa serves as showrunner. Plot details are under wraps, but we do know it takes place 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, and Yeoh’s character was revealed by insider sources as Olwen, a replicant near the end of her life.
The series is said to be a sequel to the Blade Runner 2049 movie, which in itself is a sequel to the original Blade Runner movie.
More casting announcements are expected to come in the next few months, and it’ll likely be sooner than later that we see Blade Runner 2099 on the small screen.
