Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming sci-fi series, Blade Runner 2099, has landed a new trailer, offering a look at its dystopian world overrun by Replicants.
Starring Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) as Olwen, a dying replicant Blade Runner on the hunt for Replicant fugitives, the trailer shows Los Angeles being overrun by Replicants following an uprising, causing humans to be treated as second-class citizens. Olwen embarks on a quest to find 28 Replicants who have gone off the grid, teaming up with her partner Cora (Hunter Schafer), a human pretending to be a Replicant.
Yeoh, Schafer, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Matthew Needham, showrunner Silka Luisa, and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson also appeared on a panel during the New York Comic Con to tease more of what’s in store for fans, with a clip shown exclusively at the panel detailing Olwen with blue-like nail beds, a nod to the original 1990 Blade Runner film, which indicates that she is dying.
According to the showrunners, Blade Runner 2099 will answer what happens when humanity as a species nears its end. “We are 50 years after 2049, and bad news. The worst has happened. The replicant uprising that has been bubbling up in the films has taken place, and humans have lost,” teased Luisa.

“2099 is taking place at a junction point when one species is ending and a new one is rising. The first film, something I loved about it was that it was looking at mortality on a micro level. Roy Batty and the other replicants were fighting for more life. This show asked that same question, but on a macro level. Mankind, what happens when we realise our time is running out? Are we going to accept that loss? Can we hold on to our humanity during it?”
Executive producers Kosove and Johnson also explained that the series will also explore how both humans and replicants are searching for identity, with the former trying to survive in a world where they are no longer the dominant species, and the latter in search of what the future holds, as they are now at the top of the food chain.
Blade Runner 2099 also marks the first live-action TV show in franchise history, and will comprise eight episodes when it debuts on Prime Video on 25 November 2026.
