It seems we really can’t have nice things, as an unannounced single-player Blade Runner game titled Blade Runner: Time To Live that had been in development at Supermassive Games has reportedly been cancelled.
According to Insider Gaming, the studio, which is best known for its cinematic narrative experiences like 2015’s Until Dawn and 2022’s The Quarry, had begun working on the game in its pre-production in September last year, helmed by a core team comprising of those who worked on The Quarry. The end of prototyping was scheduled for September this year, with the game’s full release planned for September 2027 across consoles and PC.

According to Insider Gaming’s sources, Blade Runner: Time To Live was set to be a “character-focused, cinematic, action adventure” featuring a 10 to 12 hour single-player campaign involving a “compelling story blending the philosophical themes of Blade Runner with kinetic action-adventure gameplay”, with player’s taking on the role of So-Lange, a vintage model Nexus-6.
“Journey from the teeming undercity of New Zurich 2065 to the eerie remnants of the forgotten world beyond,” read the description from documents obtained by Insider Game’s sources, “Under orders to retire Rev, the mysterious and ruthless leader of an underground replicant network, you are betrayed and left for dead in a brutally hostile environment.”

Additionally, the game was set to include four main gameplay pillars of stealth, combat, exploration and investigation, featuring various systems like ability upgrading, using past memories to figure out the story and acquiring in-game technology to complete investigations, making it sound like a blend of narrative elements from Supermassive’s past games with other adventure games like the Uncharted franchise.
As per Insider Gaming’s report, the game was allegedly scrapped due to issues with Blade Runner rights owner Alcon Entertainment, with the project reportedly cancelled sometime late last year. Alcon’s gaming subsidiary, Alcon Interactive Group, is currently working on a Blade Runner project of its own, together with publisher Annapurna Interactive, titled Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, although no new information has been announced since its reveal trailer in 2023.
